As the New Year sweeps past us, we reflect back on 2006 and celebrate its successes! It was a fantastic year for Reactive; we’ve grown significantly in size and geography with new offices in Sydney and London. We’ve also launched some challenging projects that we’ve loved working on.

This issue we share some of our thoughts and findings from our Reactive Blog, look at some of our recent work and check out the additions to our awards wall.

Integrating Calls to Action into your Web site

Marketers know that in order to execute successful campaigns, all channels of communication require at least one call to action. The Web is absolutely no exception. In fact, due to information overload, it fundamentally demands even more candidly communicated calls. Visitors make a decision about whether or not to stay at a Web site very quickly, usually within a few seconds before they hit the Back button. We look at how effectively adding calls to action can maximise your chances of converting visitors to prospects.

Web 2.0 for the Tourism Industry

Our Managing Director UK, Tim O’Neill recently wrote a whitepaper on “Web 2.0 for the Travel and Tourism Industry”. With it we aim to demystify some of the more common elements of Web 2.0, and show practical examples of how travel and tourism brands are using these to attract new customers, improve customer loyalty, and drive sales.

 Recent Projects

Here’s a snapshot into a couple of projects we have completed recently.

ROTHELOWMAN

Reactive created a truly unique experience for Melbourne based architectural firm ROTHELOWMAN. The elegantly constructed interface, with intersecting graphic elements and prominent photographic treatments, presents the firm's signature architectural designs in an unmistakably ROTHELOWMAN style.

The Web site, built in Flash, was coded in such a way which promotes search engine indexing and 'book marking' of individual pages within the Web site (ordinarily absent from Flash based Web sites). Innovative tools such as the 'lightbox' allow users to gather content they find interesting and send it to their friends (or colleagues) - a feature that will ultimately be used by the client to publish their own newsletters. The Web site is also integrated with Reactive’s latest version of cManager giving the client significant flexibility to update content as they see fit.

Ferguson Plarre

With one of the longest histories of any Victorian family business, Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses offer quality baked goods from 32 stores throughout the state. Reactive jumped at the chance to build an innovative Web site in an industry not known for making use of the online channel. One of the exciting features we developed was a tool that enables customers to design and completely customise their cake online, including the ability to add photos, patterns, messages, decorations as well as choosing the cake, colour and fillings – it has been a real hit!

 Awards & Industry Recognition

Agda Awards

Reactive received accolades at the hotly contested AGDA Awards in Canberra. Held biennially, the AGDA Awards recognise the best creative design solutions from the past two years in the Australian graphic design industry.

The Global Corporate Challenge Web site and our Reactive 2005 Interactive Christmas Card were both awarded distinctions at the Awards.

The Melbourne Airport Web site and Melbourne Airport Interactive Map were also recognised as finalists in the 'Digital Media - Web site' category.

We are very proud to be recognised again by one of the most respected industry awards in Australia.

AIMIA Awards

This year our AMP Thinking Ahead CD-Rom is a finalist in the Best Financial Service category of the 13th Annual AIMIA Awards. The AMP Thinking Ahead CD-Rom was produced by Reactive in partnership with Samuelson Talbot and Valve Communications.

Most Artistic Team Member

Liesl Pfeffer recently launched her first solo exhibition in Melbourne, which was held at Red Gallery, North Fitzroy. Unravelling is a series of photographs but amazingly enough Liesl has used neither a camera nor a negative! Each image is made by enlarging small squares of polaroid film that have been meticulously etched into with a scalpel. We couldn’t review it any better than the gallery who described it as Liesl’s "own visual language where the works are rich, visually dense and saturated with colour and the result is an emotive, gestural and expressive body of work". Nice work Liesl!
